These adjectives apply to that which defies social or moral proprieties and is marked by a bold lack of shame. Shameless implies a lack of modesty, sense of decency, or regard for others’ rights or feelings: a shameless liar; a shameless accusation.
EIGHT university students are lucky to be alive after a horror boat crash on the Swan River early today.
It is understood the boat was being skippered by Luke Woollard, 19 – the son of top cardiologist Keith Woollard and Alfred Cove MLA Janet Woollard.
The boat is owned by Keith Woollard.
Police believe the boat was speeding and are also investigating whether alcohol was involved.
The most seriously injured was a 19-year-old girl who was in intensive care at Fremantle Hospital.
She hit the boat’s windscreen, suffering serious facial injuries and broken bones.
Det Sen Const Matt Oakley said charges could be laid if alcohol was found to be a factor.
Today, Mr Woollard entered pleas of guilty to two counts of causing grievous bodily harm in the District Court after originally pleading not guilty to the charges.
The seriously injured girl, Kate Campbell, sued. During the case the court heard ( 9 News 9 Feb 2012 )
The son of an independent West Australian MP has testified he was “10 out of 10 drunk” on the night he took control of his father’s ski boat and crashed into a pylon at speed, causing life-threatening injuries to one of his passengers.
On March 30 this year, following a civil action in the District Court in Perth, Judge Philip McCann found in favour of Ms Campbell and said she should receive $229,627 in compensation.
In a statement late yesterday, Mr Woollard said he could not afford to pay Ms Campbell and would have to declare bankruptcy.
He said he had made a stupid decision on the night of the boat crash, but had since been subjected to years of criminal and civil litigation, and suffered more adverse publicity than most murderers.
“I hope that the community accepts that this is enough. I would like from now on to build a life and a career.”
Mr Woollard said he remained deeply sorry for what he did to Ms Campbell and he wished her well for the future.
Clearly a greater sense of entitlement than sorrow.
Luke’s father is a cardiologist, you can pay him a virtual visit here, maybe leave him an email admin@wacardiology.com.au. Dr. Keith Woollard founded Liberals for Forests and has spoken for The Wilderness Society Tasmania Inc. His mother, Dr. Janet May Woollard (born 13 February 1955) is the sitting member for the seat of Alfred Cove in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. She is an independent representing the Liberals for Forests party.
Their son, imbued with a great respect for trees but perhaps lacking some other virtues his parents might have instilled, took his father’s boat whilst drunk and changed the course of a young lady’s life. If he were seriously ill, I doubt very much if they would say “Shame you’ve got no money, son. You’ll have to die”. After all they spared nothing defending the claim.
Today, Luke Woollard declared bankruptcy.
Is that Shameless?
Very sad. What about being responsible and doing what is right.
In late 2007 I made a stupid decision and will always bear responsibility for the harm my actions caused.
In the years since a number of facts about the tragic accident which I have accepted full responsibility for and the events that followed have been misreported.
As a result I have put up some information at http://lukewoollardboatcrash.info
