I came to Canada as a little girl at seven years of age. I was excited to be in a new country but I did not speak a word of English. Life was a big adjustment in those first few years. I was thrown into the school system immediately upon my arrival in Calgary. There I found that although I was really advanced in my learning (from my Spanish education), I was severely hampered by the fact that I did not speak English.
I took English classes with my school principal who tutored my sister and I after school every day, (I owe her big time, her name was Mrs.Woodlock and she helped my sister and I learn very quickly).
She could, no doubt, have helped I learn English, too …
