I am reminded, often by my indemnifier, that unnecessary surgery is bad and that informed consent is good.
The logic behind that seems very clear.
On those grounds the genital mutilation of small children would seem to have very little going for it.
But a wise man once said that if you want reasonable people to do unreasonable things, just tell’em it’s for god.
A German court recently ruled against ritual genital mutilation and subsequently a storm has erupted.

I would, of course, defend the writer’s freedom to promulgate this drivel, but the thought that he’s free to reproduce is a worry.
