I think a good measure of fairness in society is be found in the chance that any youngster has of rising to any position in that society.
In an ideal universe any baby born tomorrow could reasonably set its sights on becoming prime minister, a brain surgeon or a rocket scientist.
All too often the biggest obstacle in the youngster’s path is its parents. What chance the unborn offspring of the sixteen year old who, last week, said on Facebook she would taunt her victim until she died?
What chance poor Roisin Fraser whose mother opted to give birth without a midwife or nurse present? NSW Deputy State Coroner Scott Mitchell found that Roisin had died moments after birth due to a “hypoxic episode” and that “her mother chose to rely on her own socio-political views about birthing and Roisin’s chance of life was deferred to that decision“.
Eliana Diskin died on Boxing Day 2000 from disseminated invasive candidiasis, a form of thrush caused by kwashiorkor – a type of malnutrition rarely seen outside the Third World. The coroner Mr. Byrne ruled that the Diskins had caused Eliana’s death by breaching a “fundamental duty of care” in failing to ensure their baby was adequately nourished. Eliana had been fed on rice milk, clearly labelled as unsuitable for the purpose, with some additives suggested by a naturopath.
Survive long enough and your parents are then free to make some decisions on your education. If they choose home schooling and the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum you may learn that the Loch Ness monster exists. She’s a plesiosaur, a living dinosaur, and her existence shows God created the Earth and evolution is bunkum. This may prove a handicap if wishing to study biology.
The unborn should choose their parents carefully … try to avoid the nutbags.
